How to get to Ketambe?

Most people arrive in Sumatra by plane at Medan, Kuala Namu Airport. If you arrive early in the morning or have spent the night at a hotel in Medan, there are three options to reach Ketambe: by minibus, shared taxi, or private taxi.

Minibus Medan to Ketambe
The cheapest way to reach Ketambe is by minibus. First, travel from Medan to Kutacane. You can find the bus station at the following address; Jl. Jamin Ginting No.21, Lau Cih, the bus company is called BTN. Continue from Kutacane to Ketambe. In Kutacane, you'll need to transfer to a smaller local bus (labi-labi). The last labi-labi to Ketambe departs at 5:30 PM. If you arrive in Kutacane after that time, you can contact us to arrange a taxi to Ketambe.

Shared taxi Medan to Ketambe
A shared taxi is a convenient alternative and can pick you up directly from your hotel in Medan or from the airport. This service operates only between 9:00–10:00 AM and 9:00–10:00 PM, so it's good to keep this in mind when booking your flight to Sumatra. You'll be sharing the taxi with other passengers, which means the journey to Ketambe might take a little longer depending on traffic and drop-off locations of other passengers.

Prices from Medan to Ketambe:
- 1 person (pickup from a hotel in Medan): 300.000 idr
- 1 person (pickup from the airport): 350.000 idr
- 2 or more persons (pickup from a hotel in Medan): 250.000 idr per person
- 2 or more persons (pick up from the airport): 300.000 idr per person

Private taxi Medan to Ketambe
A private taxi can pick you up at any preferred time from your hotel in Medan or directly from the airport. This is the fastest way to reach Ketambe, and you'll have the car entirely to yourself. The drive takes around 8 hours.

Prices from Medan to Ketambe:
- Pickup from a hotel in Medan: 1.000.000 idr 
- Pickup directly from the airport: 1.100.000 idr

Minibus Berastagi to Ketambe
To travel from Berastagi to Ketambe, you can take the same bus that comes from Medan. Ask your guesthouse in Berastagi where the bus stops so you can catch it there. The bus will drop you off in Kutacane, and from there you can take a labi-labi to Ketambe.

Shared taxi Berastagi to Ketambe
The shared taxi that can pick you up in Berastagi departs from Medan and usually stops at your guesthouse in Berastagi around 2 PM. The prices are the same as from Medan to Ketambe, since the taxi travels with an empty seat until it reaches Berastagi.

Private taxi Berastagi to Ketambe  
A private taxi can pick you up at any preferred time from your hotel in Berastagi. This is the fastest way to reach Ketambe, and you'll have the car entirely to yourself. The drive takes around 5 hours. The total price for this journey is 900.000 idr.

Lake Toba t0 Ketambe
From Lake Toba to Ketambe there are only two transport options available. Unfortunately, there's no shared taxi service on this route. The two other options are by bus or by private taxi.

Minibus
By minibus, there are two ways to reach Ketambe. The first option is to take the ferry from TukTuk to Parapat, then continue by minibus from Parapat to Siantar, from Siantar to Kabanjahe, from Kabanjahe to Kutacane, and finally from Kutacane to Ketambe.

The second option is to travel from the other side of the island. You can take a bus from TukTuk to Pangururan, then continue from Pangururan to Sidikalang, from Sidikalang to Kutacane, and finally from Kutacane to Ketambe.

For both options, please note that the last bus (labi-labi) from Kutacane to Ketambe departs at 5:30 PM. If you arrive later, you can contact us to arrange a taxi from Kutacane to Ketambe.

Private taxi
A private taxi can pick you up at any preferred time from your hotel in Tuktuk. This is the fastest way to reach Ketambe, and you'll have the car entirely to yourself. The drive takes around 8 hours. The total price for this journey is 1.600.000 idr.
